Day 2 - Sayer

Day 2 was a day devoted primarily to finishing up our materials list and purchasing what was on that list. The first hour or so of the day was spent with Mr. Grisbee teaching us how to properly use the table saw, both the regular blade and the dado stack, a blade type designed to make indents and channels in wood. He taught us first through a lecture and then had me come up and try and change the blades, which I did after a bit more guidance. There were a few finicky bits but I guess the easiest way to learn is going elbow deep into dangerous woodworking machines am I right?

After getting my hands all up in some metal guts we were given pretty loose work time to properly line out all of our finalized measurements, I did so rather quickly and was definitely being productive the rest of the time. I did actually make a detailed blueprint of all of my connections which will definitely help in the future. After that, we had lunch and then decided to leave for the store a bit earlier than anticipated. At Rockler I spent most of my time helping out Mr. Grisbee as I decided what I needed and found it within the first 10 minutes, not to brag.

We left Rockler after what felt like an hour but was probably only like 30 minutes. After this, we went to Home Depot. Let me tell you, Home Depot is an eldrich place to be, my memories of it are rare and I fear that it might have been because my agoraphobic brain just blocked them out. It feels like I stumbled somewhere that I wasn't allowed to see, it was honestly a life-changing experience. There was just... so much stuff... piled so high... How do they even get the stuff up from up so high?

Anyways, after getting our wood from the modern-day equivalent to the lost city of R'lyeh, we headed back to the school. I found myself having purchased a massive 3/4"x4'x8' plank of maple plywood that probably weighed more than I did. I learned this viscerally as I had to pick it up and move it over 5 times. Anyways, the rest of the day was spent outlining what it was we needed to do the next day.
