Day 5 - Sayer
Today was another rather nice experience because we got a [REDACTED]load of stuff done on the shelf, with enough break time in between to not have it get grating like Thursday was. We started the day out with dado-ing the remaining few that needed to get done. After that was done I tried to fit everything together, and it didn't work on one end. So we removed some of the veneer and tried again, it didn't work, so we removed even more of the veneer, and it worked. It worked so well that it almost got stuck. Which would've been pretty bad.
Now, all we have to do for the main shelf body is remove some of the wood from the back to make the backing fit better, actually cut out the backing itself, and stick it all together. After that we need to cut out the felt, place it on the spots, make it look nice, apply the edge banding, and make the holders. The holders will be pretty cool, and will also probably have some form of a design laser cut onto the sides of them.
Oh right the other thing I have to do, we were told to watch a video and I did so sitting alone in the CNC room because I'm cool like that. The main interesting thing that I learned was the wood itself grew, now that may seem like a cop-out because obviously that's the whole premise of the video but it was genuinely the coolest thing that I learned. His tidbit about how oak can grow significantly (up to an eighth of an inch over a foot and a half!) compared to sealed wood was really weird to me. It's probably only one of the very many things in this weird field that I don't know.
